As part of a renovation to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Head Offices in Maidenhead was the need for a new heating and hot water system. A Hitachi VRF system had recently been installed to provide space heating to the majority of the building. However, to improve the green credentials of the building an air source heat pump was to provide space heating to a new area as well as providing hot water. Hitachi had recently had their split system air source heat pump MCS approved.
The Renewable Design Company undertook the engineering challenge of working with a new product so a Hitachi product could be installed in the property meaning the whole heating & hot water system for the building could be controlled from a single Hitachi controller. The split system air source heat pump was installed along with 3no. 300L hot water cylinders. The challenge of installing a system on the fifth floor of the building without easy access meant 3 smaller cylinders were more feasible than a single large cylinder. The system was successfully installed at the beginning of 2015 in time for the re-opening of this important institution.
